About Peter

Teaching Style: I have been so lucky to study under so many great teachers that all place different energy on different aspects of their classes, from the fundamental movements, creative sequences, to amazing music. It all starts with alignment. Building a class through safe alignment with the aim to explore full range in creative ways is my goal. Coming from a background of a wide variety of competitive sports, movement has always been a huge part of my life. Being mindful of my movements however only began to develop in my practice. I try to explore full and challenging movements in my classes with an emphasis on a stronger connection of mind, body, and breath.

Training: I completed my 200 through Pure in 2013 under Mark Laham, Mike Dynie, and Todd Lavictoire. This gave me a true appreciation for a love of asana and anatomy, two of my favourite things to talk about. I am also a Level I Tune-Up instructor, which has been something that has given me so much insight into my own body, it’s movements, and it’s pain.

Why I teach: Over the course of my 20’s I’ve had a variety of injuries that have hindered my abilities to be active. In 2012, I injured my back lifting an object (with poor posture) and over the next two years I battled back spasms that would leave me in my bed for days. Yoga taught me to move again, without pain, and more importantly-with purpose. I hope to share some of the knowledge I’ve learned over the last few years to help people of all ages and shapes move better, build posture, and ultimately stay active.

Before Yoga: Coming from a family with three older brothers I have been blessed to have as much guidance/tutelage as I’ve had. I have also developed a “healthy” competitive streak as a result of being the youngest of four boys. I’ve spent what seems to be my entire life playing basketball, football, and volleyball and going into my thirties I still play all of these sports, just with a little less pain now ;)
