Fill a decorated shoebox with gifts and a warm message of support. The Shoebox Project will deliver it directly to a local woman impacted by homelessness in time for the holidays.
On any given day in Ottawa, 4,000+ women are in crisis (homeless or at-risk of homelessness). This is a hard situation to be in at any time, but winter, and particularly Christmas and the holiday season, is especially challenging. That’s why here at Pure Yoga Ottawa we have teamed up with the Shoebox Project to facilitate the donation of holiday “shoeboxes” to women in need.
Ottawa’s holiday Shoebox Drive starts on 12 November and runs until 15 December 2019. We are hoping that members of our yoga community will join us in creating and donating a shoebox to the cause.
What’s in a shoebox? Physically, about $50 worth of new “treat” items, such as dry shampoo, a pair of gloves, a cinema gift card and a bar of chocolate (see below for more ideas), as well as a greeting card with kind message. Beyond that, a shoebox gives hope and happiness and a reduced sense of isolation to a woman currently suffering from a personal crisis and low self-esteem. It may be a small deed but it can have a very positive and lasting impact.
Start the holiday season the way it was meant to be enjoyed, by being a part of community enhancement and bringing joy and happiness to others. Shoeboxes can be dropped off at our Westboro location from 12 Nov-15 Dec. Namaste!
